The “Effortless” Cool-Girl Look for Less

Now, don’t get me wrong. I love brands like Glossier and Milk Makeup. They have an “I’m not even trying” vibe that I’ve been identifying with more and more. But $26 to look like you’re not wearing foundation? And another $20 for some added color to your cheeks and lips? It’s just not worth the money to me. That’s not to say that I’ll never purchase any of their products, because I’m definitely in love with Milk Makeup’s edgier take on their line. But their minimal look is not something exclusive to people with a lot of cash in their bank account!

Here’s how to get your own I woke up like this look for less:

#1: No Foundation ($0)

Seriously. Can’t get any more effortless than that. But if you feel like you absolutely must have something on your face, use your favorite lightweight foundation mixed in with moisturizer.

#2: Maybelline Fit Me Concealer ($6.99 at Ulta)

Cover up those blemishes, or bare them if you just don’t care. This concealer works best for spot concealing rather than under-eye concealing. For that, I recommend the Maybelline Age Rewind concealers instead.

#3: Burt’s Bees Squeezable Lip Balm ($3.99 at Walgreens)

You know, if you don’t want to pay $12 for a lip balm.

#4: L’Oreal Brow Stylist Plumper Brow Gel Mascara ($5.39 at Target)

Fill in your brows while the lip balm sets in. If a brow mascara just doesn’t do it for you, the E.L.F. Eyebrow Kit is a great alternative.

#5: Maybelline Dream Bouncy Blush ($7.99 at Ulta)

No one ever talks about these things anymore, but I still love them! They’re super cute and they wear well on the skin. If you’re more of a powder blush person, I recommend the Milani Rose Powder Blushes.

#5: CoverGirl Smoochies Lip Balm ($4.39 at Target)

Top it all off with a sheer wash of color on your lips! There are 12 shades to choose from. Just don’t expect these to last all day, cuz they won’t.

Total cost of looking this effortless: $28.75. Just a couple of dollars more than the cost of one Perfecting Skin Tint from Glossier.

And in case you were wondering, the painting featured above is by Emile Vernon, a French painter in the late 19th/early 20th century.
